book nerd

I gave up reading for a while.  Not intentionally, by any means.  It just kind of fell out of my daily routine.  It may have something to do with the amount of Netflix I was watching....Gossip Girl...but tha'ts over and I'm at it again.

I am currently absorbed in an awesome book: "And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini.  Honestly, I didn't think I would really like it.  I'm definitely a fan of romance and drama and I had an inkling that this wasn't either of those things.  But a good friend of mine recommended I borrow her copy and read it.  So I did.  And I love it!! It's thought-provoking and interesting and I just really, really  like it.  (How's that for a review?)

While I was in Hawaii last month (more on that trip later...when I'm feeling ambitious) I read Wild by Cheryl Strayed.  Again, I didn't think I would like it but had heard wonderful things so I gave it a shot.  I guess you could say I've been stepping out of my comfort zone, broadening my horizons, if you will. ;) And I loved it!  Made me want to be more adventurous and do things I never thought I could do.  I highly recommend it.  And they're coming out with a movie about it, starring Reese Witherspoon!  That alone should make you read it. :)

And I read the Divergent series.  And to be honest, I didn't love them.  I really enjoyed the first one so I decided to read the next two and I was just disappointed.  They were kind of boring and dull.  I was confused because I had heard of a lot of people liking them but they just didn't do it for me.  Maybe I've had a little too much of the dystopian novels lately, but they just weren't all that.

On that note, happy reading! Let me know if you've read any good books lately!

game changers

I've been in a bit of a funk {again} as of late.  The monotany of life sometimes just starts to wear on me.  BUT, while I was in Hawaii I picked up some things at the little gift shop in our resort that have seriously helped improve my mood.  First is this book:

I love it.  I've been keeping it on my nightstand nex to my bed and I read just one little snippet of it each night as part of my personal devotional.  It's been great.  Sometimes I share it with Preston and I think he lets me just to please me. :)  I've found that the following morning I'm thinking about what I read in this the night before and the thoughts always seem to pop up at random times throughout the day.  I've had several instances already when a quote from this book has popped into my head to snap me out of feeling discouraged.  Anyways, I love it.  And I'll be reading it for the next 995 days. :)

The second thing I got was this:

I love this little thing! It makes keeping a journal so easy!  I still have a larger journal that I write more detailed entries in but I love that I can write in this every day and it takes like 2-3 minutes tops.  It will last five years and I think it will be so fun to look back on and compare what I did each day over a five year period.  And the best part about it is, I can't really justify not writing in it since it is so simple.  That alone is worth it to me.

Happy almost Friday!
xoxo, Syd
